The inspiration for this piece came after watching a film about Chanel. One day, while still immersed in the lingering feelings from the movie, “Moon River” suddenly began to play. Although it had no connection to the film, tears unexpectedly welled up. It was an emotion I couldn’t put into words, and I wanted to give that feeling a shape to preserve. A loquat tree I had been growing in a small pot finally began to bear fruit. Last year, I waited as long as possible for the fruit to sweeten, but the crows beat me to it. This year, determined not to lose again, I harvested a little earlier! Remembering that story, I painted this piece with hopes that the tree will bear fruit again next year. While painting, I recalled a design I once made called “Fried Egg and Flower.” The “moon” in Moon River and the round shape of an egg yolk somehow overlapped in my mind, and with that nostalgic feeling, I added another sunny-side-up egg (but it’s a flower!) — a little nod to those days. This is a one-of-a-kind piece that captures a small moment of everyday life. Painted with acrylic paints.
